SUMMER VISIT - 2nd JULY 2011

POWIS CASTLE, NEAR WELSHPOOL, POWIS

Powis
                    Castle

Our visit to Powis Castle was a popular one with 51 members filling the coach, and it was even more popular after our visit judging from the enthusiastic comments!

The world-famous garden is overhung with clipped yews of enormous stature, looking like fantastic green waves about to engulf the visitor.

The sheltered terraces overlooked by original lead statues supported colourful borders beautifully lit in the warm sunshine.

Many ice creams were consumed from the café at the foot of the gardens.

At this time of year there were no guided tours of the castle but many of us took the opportunity to look round inside where informative volunteers manned all the rooms ...and were amazed at the thickness of the walls.

Powis is a fairy-tale castle surrounded by immaculate and interesting  gardens and glorious views.
